Chelsea fans will be singing the blues as their side was eliminated from the FA Cup in the Quarterfinals by Barnsley 0-1 at Oakwell. A poor decision by goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini resulted in an Odejayi goal for the home side, who knock out the holders despite allowing 22 shots, 13 on target. Chelsea placed constant pressure on the backline, but the Barnsley back 4 and keeper Steele were well up to the challenge, and add to their scalps in this tournament, just a round after knocking out Liverpool on the road at Anfield.
The loss, which was played without Didier Drogba (who wasn't even named to the bench), Petr Cech, and Frank Lampard, ensures that the FA Cup will change hands (Chelsea were the holders), and also eliminates the final competitor for the prestigious League-FA Cup-Champs League Treble -- shocking news coming on the heels of Manchester United's loss to Pompey earlier in the day, which also eliminated them from the Treble chances.
For victors Barnsley, they'll take on the winners of Bristol Rovers/West Brom in the FA Cup Semifinals, where a new champion will be crowned this year with Chelsea's departure.
